Resource saving and energy saving activities

We consume a lot of energy to produce carbon black.
We have been designated as an energy management factory and is stipulated by law.
The entire company, led by the Energy Conservation Secretariat, is working as one to achieve an average annual improvement of 1% or more in energy-related basic units over the last five years. In order to achieve the “improvement of energy intensity over the past 5 years by an average of 1% or more per year” as stated in the law.
The effect of the activity is an improvement effect of an average reduction of 2.8% between the past five years from 2016 to 2020.
We are also working on resource conservation activities to protect the natural environment.
Specific resource-saving and energy-saving activities are as follows.

Promotion of energy-saving equipment in the plant

Powered equipment in our plant is operated efficiently, thus saving electricity, water and heat.

Operation of our privately-owned electrical power facility

We use the by-product gas that results from carbon black production to generate electricity.
This electricity is used for our plant equipment and part of it is sold to neighborhood businesses through electric power utilities.

Effective use of CO2

To reduce the amount of CO2 generated and released into the atmosphere during electricity generation, we supply it to a neighbor company for its use in papermaking.

Water recycling system

Most of the water used in manufacturing carbon black is industrial water. After being used, part of it is collected in storage tanks and reused.

Zero emission of industrial waste

In July 2008, we achieve zero emission of industrial waste, an achievement that continues today.

Paper recycling

Paper used in our offices is not disposed of but recycled. We also reduce the use of paper through e-documentation.

Green logistics

For the purpose of reducing environmental load in product logistics, we are making a modal shift from trucks to roads to transportation methods with less environmental load. This will reduce greenhouse gases such as CO2 generated during transportation. We aim to be an eco-friendly logistics system.
This project has been approved by the government as an energy-saving project for railway transportation of privately owned hopper containers under the 2007 Green Logistics Partnership, and the annual CO2 reduction amount is equivalent to 10,000 cedar trees.
